A gaming PC, as defined by Wikipedia is a personal computer specifically designed for playing games that require a significant amount of computing resource, which are not limited to the following:
- Memory (RAM)
- CPU (Processor)
- GPU (Graphics Card)
- Hard Drive
- Bandwidth (if playing online games)
Most of the time, gaming PC’s are custom built to meet the specifications of the user. If money is not an issue, gamers always upgrade the video cards as well as the memory cards to top of the line brands like Nvidia GTX 1080 ti, and boosts the memory up to 64 GB.
High end gamers will also choose the top of the line CPU by the name of Intel Core i9 or even Intel Xeon to make sure that smooth game play is experienced all throughout their gaming activity. High end gamers will also choose SSD instead of HDD for their storages as SSD are more stable compared to HDD which have lots of moving parts that are more prone to damage compared to solid state drives.
The good thing about this is SSD are becoming cheaper as time goes by and SSD capacities have significantly increased compared to SSD capacities 3-4 years ago.
Are Gaming PC’s Worth It?
If you ask me, then the answer is a resounding YES! Although I own is a gaming laptop (Asus ROG 553 VE) instead of a PC, I think the experience is just the same. Just looking at the hardware itself and the specs is so satisfying.
Aside from that, gaming PC’s and laptops are not just for gaming since you can also use it for some resource intensive computing tasks as well like video editing and graphics design. I do a lot of those things so my gaming laptop serves me a lot of purpose aside from gaming.
